The Roost label was founded in 1949 by Arthur Faden, Bill Faden, Monty Kay and Ralph Watkins in New York City. The label was named after the jazz club on Broadway and 47th Street owned by Morris Levy. Shortly after founding the label, Jack Hooke (who was a close personal friend of Alan Freed) and Teddy Reig bought Royal Roost Records, a tiny jazz label that recorded the likes of Stan Getz, Erroll Garner, Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. Mr. Hooke became a plugger, traveling to radio stations around the country to promote Royal Roost's or Roost records. In August 1958 the club owner purchased the label and combined it with Roulette.
In this blog we want to make the series of Roost records better known . We collect high quality covers and audio material. This all with a non profit intention just giving credit to the cover artists, the editors of the liner notes and last but not least the musicians.
thank you beppo for the covers
